The Brain That Changes Itself!

Is the term "neuroplasticity" familiar to you?

Do you remember a few posts back I mentioned the book "The Brain That Changes Itself"?

Well the Canadian Documentary Canadian Broadcast Corporation program "The Nature of Things" with host David Suzuki has just aired a one hour segment on the topic.

Join us as we explore the revolutionary science of "neuroplasticity" - a concept that expands not just our knowledge of how our brains work, but how we use them.

For centuries the human brain has been thought of as incapable of fundamental change. People suffering from neurological defects, brain damage or strokes were usually written-off as hopeless cases. But recent and continuing research into the human brain is radically changing how we look at the potential for neurological recovery.

The human brain, as we are now quickly learning, has a remarkable ability to change itself - in fact, even to rewire itself.

The Brain that Changes Itself, based on the best-selling book by Toronto psychiatrist and researcher Dr. Norman Doidge, presents a strong case for reconsidering how we view the human mind.

In Canada you can watch the entire broadcast on line. If you are outside Canada check the website to see if you can order a DVD of the program.

Please do yourself a favour and check out this exceptional information and don't forget to read the book.

Mark Joyner is My Hero...

Mark Joyner is my hero...Well maybe not really but I do follow him on Twitter, even though he rarely ever posts to his Twitter account.

Mark is a New Zealander (Kiwi) and is the man behind Simpleology. (a web based program to help us get the most out of our lives) I have started it in the past but I tend to drop out without finishing it. (Not really sure as to why as Mark's material is always great)

Here is something that Mark is doing now that i thought I would check out and that you (the reader) might be interested in as well.

I'm evaluating a multi-media course on blogging from the folks at Simpleology. For a while, they're letting you snag it for free if you post about it on your blog.

It covers:

  • The best blogging techniques.
  • How to get traffic to your blog.
  • How to turn your blog into money.

I'll let you know what I think once I've had a chance to check it out. Meanwhile, go grab yours while it's still free.

So do go check it out and let me know if it has been useful to you in setting up your blog and/or getting more bang out of your blog posts.

Mark is a nice guy (really) and I am sure he will appreciate your interest. (hay in fact when I post the link on Twitter to this blog post even Mark himself may follow it back) Imagine the power of Web 2.0 puts you in touch with everyone and anyone on the planet....Imagine...

If you don't have a blog, then get one today. If you have a blog then post a link to it in the comments of this post. Either way go check out Mark's offer...Thanks!

Insomnia, Is There a Biological Cause?

There may be, according to preliminary research published over the weekend by researchers from Brigham and Women's Hospital in the journal SLEEP.

Using a novel form of magnetic resonance technology, the team, led by Dr. John Winkelman, a psychiatrist in the division of sleep medicine, discovered that some people with chronic insomnia have lower brain levels of a neurotransmitter called GABA.

Can cognitive behavioral therapy help?

These choices may have just as much impact on our bodies as if we exercise regularly, how we manage stress, what medications we take and how often we visit our doctor or if we have our regular physical checkup.
